Internationals Two Blues Feature As Portugal Leave It Late

Internationals: Two Blues feature as Portugal leave it late

Dias and Cancelo involved in Portugal’s late show

Manchester City duo Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo played a key role as Portugal secured a late victory over Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

The result is Portugal’s first win in UEFA Nations League Group A3 after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Serbia in their opening fixture.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored an 89th-minute winner to send Portugal top of Group A3 on three points, while Republic of Ireland remain pointless after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Scotland in their opening match.

Dias and Cancelo key for Portugal

Ruben Dias was a rock at the heart of Portugal’s defence, making a number of important interceptions and tackles to keep the Republic of Ireland at bay. The Manchester City centre-back has been in excellent form for Portugal in recent months, and he was once again one of the team’s best performers on Wednesday.

Joao Cancelo was also in fine form for Portugal. The Manchester City full-back was a constant threat down the right flank, and he created a number of chances for his team-mates. Cancelo also played a key role in Ronaldo’s winning goal, with his cross from the right finding the Real Madrid forward in the box.

Overall, it was a good night for Manchester City and Portugal. Dias and Cancelo were both in excellent form, and they played a key role in Portugal’s victory. The result is a boost for Portugal’s hopes of qualifying for the Nations League finals, and it will also give City boss Pep Guardiola plenty of encouragement ahead of the new season.
