Jim Inhofe, a five-term Republican senator from Oklahoma and a staunch conservative known for his strong support of defense spending and his denial that human activity is the primary driver of climate change, died on Friday at the age of 87.
Inhofe, who served as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee from 2015 to 2019, was a vocal critic of the mainstream scientific consensus on climate change. In 2015, he famously brought a snowball onto the Senate floor as a way to mock the idea that the planet was warming.
